i can't install anything-errors with adept and ....

Hi all

i am facing a problem with automatix, add/remove programs, adept
i can't install any program, the message that appears when i open the "add/remove programs" or "adept" is:

"another proccess is using the packaging system database (probably some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude). please close the other application before using this one."

and the automatix error when i am trying to install "wine" is:

fatal error: wine
an apt-based error occured and installation was unsuccessful

i am not opening anyother program, that happens even when i've just started my computer


can anybody help please

Hi,

Try to use sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, usually it's giving information. maybe you will need to use :
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo dpkg-configure -a

Run the program ksysguard. It should be located in System directory in K-menu. This has a process table much like the windows task manager. Check for any adept programs running and kill them.

Please, please, please help me. I'm having this exact same problem. I'm looking in ksysguard-process table but I don't know what I should be killing and the kill button doesn't seem to be working anyway. The problem just isn't going away. I've tried rebooting. I've tried switching off then booting. I've even tried $ sudo kill KILL -1 which apparently kills everything, and I ended up at a command line but nothing has worked so far and I don't want to have to reinstal the whole system because of this.
I've even attached a screenshot of the error message.

Sorry UnicornRider your link kept timing out on me. I just read the article and this:

$ sudo --configure --pending

fixed the problem. Thank you, you're a star and thanks to the unqualified penguin trainers (I love that).
