My HP Deskjet 3845 only uses the color cartridge to print everything, black or color. I discovered this when it started printing black as pale green. Installing new color cartridge only (no black) it prints black fine. When installing new black cartridge only, it prints nothing from Kubuntu Open office, T-Bird etc. (sounds like printing but blank page).
From laptop with XP it prints fine so problem must be in Kubuntu system or printer driver, which is shown as being for that printer.
