    Re: blacklisting?

Perhaps you are not thinking to DVDs or polotics.

Blacklists are user amended text files used by many communication applications like Instant Message/Chat/IRC/Emails and these type.

The function is to allow the user to block certain other persons from communicating by keeping any contacts from certain peoples. Mostly by blocking these peoples addresses, names, emails or some thing of that kind.

The number of different schemes for allowing this are many in relation to the different applications. Check the help files of the application.

This is also on telephones to stop bothering calls from that guys who you dont want to talk to

      1) Email blacklists and whitelists. Blacklists contain known spammers and whitelists legitimate emailers. Email blacklists can be ineffective when spammers send spoof addresses.
      2) IP-based blacklists ans whitelists. Similarly these block spammers by IP addresses. They can be too strong and they can black whole countries.
      3) URL blacklists. Spammers can refer to sites by their URL address and blacklists block them.

How you apply them depends on the level you are operating at. In Thunderbird you can start the spam controls. I also use a Thunderbird extension called Spamato. If you are operating a multiuser system you would use a different level altogether.
