    Yes!
    Now KDE 4.3 is up and running.. Thank you!

    I guess that it can be useful if the info would be in the release notes too ;-)

    Bye

          I also had problem after upgrade. May be similar to blackhat. I could login but system freezes at startup.. while still loading plasma desktop.

          Nothing responds and the only way out was hard reset. console login was working fine. After much fidgeting around, what solved my problem was I removed kubuntu-desktop and reinstalled it. That did the trick.

          Now I'm happily back with kde 4.3.00

          cheers!!

            KDE 4.3 is running superbly on my notebook!

              1st attempt didn't work. Plasma was broken and many other things didn't install successfully.

              Fixed it by running:
              sudo apt-get -f install
              sudo apt-get install --reinstall kde-core

              Now everything seems fine. KDE 4.3 is simply gorgeous !!

                Thank you all for the input, I tried to summarize the best update in the first post.

                  Now there is new trouble, BEWARE if you installed 4.3 (I updated the original post)

                  A recent (August 5) update to these packages tries to remove python-qt4 (and would certainly bring things): http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3105570.0

                    It works great for me no problems at all, in fact it solved all the problems that prevented me from using kubuntu I did a fresh install with kde 4.3 as soon as I tried it on my test machine. It is very very impressive it's been 4 days and still no bugs or problems yet.

                      Re: KDE 4.3 Unofficially Released for Kubuntu

                      what is the best course of action.. install kubuntu 64bit then update, then install ppa repos, then do a dist-upgrade, then reinstall kde-core?
                      or install kubuntu, then add ppa then update distro?

                      is there a BEST (for the most stable, i know its unsupported) approach?

                      thanks

                      what about doing a minimal install.. adding the ppa to the sources.list and apt-get install kubuntu-desktop?
                      or is apt-get install kde (for everything)?

                        I think the KDE 4.3.1 packages are a lot less problematic:
                        http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3106162.0

                        If you know your way around, I think the cleanest and quickest way to do this is:
                        * Minimal install (if you have that cd around)
                        * Add the ppa sources
                        * apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade
                        * apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

                        (all these with sudo)

                        You should be up and running in no time, and Kubuntu 64 bit flies! (I love it)

                          this should be pretty fast going from minimal to full desktop )

                            I just went from 4.2.2 on my 9.04/64 to 4.3.1..

                            I must say I am VERY happy so far!
