[MULTI BOOT] Grub installation failed on UEFI hardware

    Hi all,

I have a new Sony Vaio duo 11 with UEFI and GPT enabled hardware. I would like to dual boot Windows 8 with Kubuntu. When I try and install Kubuntu 12.04, I get "Grub installation failed error" as shown in the attached picture.

I then booted again into the live USB of Kubuntu 12.04 and then run boot-repair tool. The following is the URL which the boot-repair tool gave. The tool works perfectly but when I boot, it boots back to Windows and does not give the grub menu.

    My questions:

    1) Why does the Grub installation fails when Ubuntu's does not?
    2) What else can I do to get the Grub right?

I do not personally use Kubuntu, but I'm the tech support for my daughter who does.

Buddlespit@ Are you refering to rEFInd in the link? I was wondering if there is a way with Grub and where I am going wrong with it?

hmmm.... it looks like you installed the boot managers on two different drives. You may have to boot into the drive that contains the linux /EFI if you want to run any of your linux distros. For me to pull up which drive I want to boot to, I have to press F11. you might want to watch your startup screen closely to see what buttons do what. My system is F2 for bios setup and F11 for boot options.

sda1 has your windows boot files and sda3 has your linux boot files. I'll wager that your system is going straight to sda1 on boot.

Ins't the role of boot-repair tool to figure out all of that? For me the boot repair tools does its job as can be seen in the link above, but still it does not show me the grub menu. I am looking for solutions to my problem.
