Is file copy differechnt in Linux and Windows ?

I had a strange experience when trying to update a Roland musical instrument.

The update procedure consists of downloading the update zip file, unzipping it, and copying it to the device.
When you connect the device via USB, and start it and push a number of keys, it acts like a USB drive.

When copying the file via Dolphin, the device did not see the update file.
I then started windows, downloaded, unzipped and copied it to the device again, and it worked
To make sure the files were identical, I created an md5 checksum on the Linux and windows systems, and they were identical.

Does anyone have an explanation of why this update does not work using linux (tried several times before firing up my dual boot windows system on the same laptop)

The file was effectively copied to the device.
Normally, as soon as you eject or disconnect the synthesiser from the computer, the upgrade should start, but it never did, and when I reconnected the USB cable, I could see that the file was still there
When I used windows, copied the file and ejected and disconnected the USB cable, the upgrade immediately started.

It may be something specific to the device. I have action cams, cycling computers, and cameras that use similar procedures for updating firmware, and have had no issue using dolphin. I have actually as far as I can recall never used anything other than Dolphin for this purpose.

I wonder if it is being opened in MTP mode, or in PTP mode, which is primarily for images files on cameras, though some devices seem to be able to be both, even if it does not make sense.

It is a Roland Aerophone, a sort of synthesiser in the form of a wind instrument.

It has a USB connector, that is used for 2 purposes.
- Normal use: midi controller, used to control external midi devices, or to record the music you play into a music notation software.
- When you push a certain key when starting, it behaves as a USB drive, for update purposes, you need to copy the update file onto it, and it starts updating when you eject or disconnect the USB cable.
