During the last weeks I anticipated the change and replaced add-ons etc. (if possible). So the change came not as a big boom.
I'm still not happy with a lot of changes (no fireftp, no tab mix plus, no download status bar, etc.)
But all together: I can live with it.
Personally I don't see any change in speed. But I seem to be the only one, so maybe my computer is getting too old.
Luckily Mozilla made some changes I used to do with addons (like recognize which tab has focus, not closing menus when you open a bookmark).
Still no download notification at all. Nothing. Even the arrow they used to have when download was finished disappeared.
I realize I use Firefox in a pretty extreme way, so I guess a lot of 'normal' user may be happy with the new Firefox. Ah, well, I can live with it and since I changed things slowly the last weeks it's not as bad as I was fearing.

Odd! Do you not see a downward pointing arrow on the RHS of the url bar thatanimates during a download and changes color?

I'm trying to attach an animated gif showing the download arrow in Fx57. Mods, if this isn't allowed, sincere apologies in advance!

I removed it. It hikes the page's CPU usage. If I find out how to limit the number of times it cycles, that would be neat.

There used to be a big arrow, visible about one second. That's gone. One second was way too short, but because it was so big most of the time I saw it.
I've removed the button (arrow) you show, because that changes a very little bit (really very little) about half a second. Completely useless: if I blink my eyes, it's gone.
I installed Download Sound to get at least a sound notification when a download is finished. (One of the things I did last weeks to prepare for the change.)
But if I compare this with Chrome: Chrome has a very usable download bar. I used Download Status Bar, but that's not usable any more and the author said it's impossible to implement it as web extension.

Maybe it has something to do with a colour scheme or something like that, but I'm not going to experiment with that. I spend hours (days maybe) to get simple things like showing in a menu on with entry the cursor is. (Hover didn't work, impossible to see where the cursor was.) So no way I'm going to experiment with that.
But as I wrote: I can live with it. Download sound together with Ctrh+Shift+Y to open the downloads window. In that window I can see everything. But it's way easier if you simply can see the downloads in a toolbar down under in the window. (I download quite a lot zips with code etc.)

? I'm not sure what this means ,,,,,,SWAT analysis ?

basically it's just standard firefox but with the plasmazilla and the mozilla-kde-support package from the same place you get native KDE file dialogs instead of the GTK ones .

In that case, unfortunately no, I don't know of good analysis based on SWOT.

I think we could come up with a list although my personal judgment is based on the Undesirability of the other options.

[edit] I removed some of this post because I wasn't talking about Firefox, specifically.

I just checked and today's update gave me FF 57.0. I've not had a chance to do more than open it. I use Palemoon (FF fork) in day-to-day work.

I did notice that one of my preferred extension (NoScript) does NOT yet have a working version for FF 57.0. This is a game stopper for me as I really like the ability to block ALL scripts and selectively allow only a few on a temporary basis. I'll not use FF 57.0 for anything until NoScript releases a compatible version.

Have you brought that up with Mozilla? Be interesting to see the response.

jglen490; If you're asking about my post, no, I did not contact Mozilla about FF 57 and the acceptable extensions.

I did read a lot of info from Mozilla's site, some of which basically says: "wait, third party devs are working on several extensions". I think Mozilla caught a lot of third party people un-ready for this "update". I also think those same devs were waiting until their customers asked for a compatible update for their tool, before they seriously committed resources to the work. "Free" means no income to the devs...

NoScript's developer Does say that he is working on a compatible version. It isn't ready yet...

I'll withhold judgment until I can test NoScript under FF 57. If the speed benefits are real, then I would consider using FF again. But I make no promises. Security is more important to me than "brand loyalty"...

This infamous memory leak has been present for EVER! I’m baffled as to why it has never been fixed.

                          Teunis,

I also have UBLock Origin installed, however it is not so much a script blocker as a site blocker. I like the NoScript config panel because is shows which scripts are requesting permission to run and which are being blocked/allowed and easy switching between states.

I am amazed at the number of third-party scripts being used by website designers today. Between Youtube(r), Google(r) and numerous content delivery hosts, it's a wonder that more sites don't crash immediately.

I've not noticed the 'memory leak" problem, perhaps because I don't do much in the way of multi-file downloads. Usually I pull down a small number of things during a typical session, like grabbing a copy of a webpage for my archives.

Fair enough. FF57 just showed up on my machine today. No problems so far. The Download arrow shows up as it is used and for as long as the download is active. Changed the wretched default theme. Other than that, just using it and waiting to see what additional tools/addons show as time moves on.

I did notice one thing, no airplanes fell out of the sky and no severe injuries have been attributable to FF57. So much "sky is falling" pre-release hype. Give it time - in my opinion.

There is probably not a whole lot of difference in actual functions, but the interfaces are different enough to push me toward NoScript.
