The new FX seems better, to me. Faster. For example, faster upon clicking on a link--either on the same page or opening a new tab (for the clicked-upon site).

Browser talk now ... I do not now have my NoScript (or any replacement) on the new FX. And, boy, ain't that nice! ;-) NoScript (and others) are nice, but there are times where you simply can't get a website to work well with it on (and by incrementally allowing scripts down the list). Can be very frustrating at times. And about browsers, Chromium is the go-to browser I use when FX isn't doing the job well enough. However, there are sites for which FX is better, and there are sites where Chromium is better. Specifically, my Chromium may falter, but then FX will work perfectly on the same site/task.

Strange.

Anyway, so far I have no complains about the FX 57.0 (on Kubuntu 14.04); and it appears it is running better/faster on some things--so far.

Looks like we started two threads on the new FX (the other thread focussing more on automatics updates, security, choice).

Re. this memory leak, for how long does Firefox have to run to see this? Are there particular sites that induce the leak?

I close (quit) my browser pretty often and shutdown my computer at least once a day. Could that be why I haven't seen anything memory issues of significance?

WRT the memory leak, I'm not seeing it (Linux Mint 18.3) and from what Teunis says, I also use the NoScript extension/plugin which blocks Javascript on sites by default. When I do turn on JS, I still don;t see any memory leak, but I also don't stay on any one site for more than 15-20 minutes at a time. This is using FF 57.0.

Will Firefox 57 be available in Bionic Beaver without recourse to a ppa? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Firefox isn't updated until feature (?) or version (?) freeze. Is that is correct?

Here's one thread over at Ubuntu Forums that seems to indicate that Firefox 56 may not be updated soon.

That thread is both somewhat old (april 2017) and specific to the development branch. FF 57.0 has been released to the repositories. I didn't read anything about FF 56 (typo?).

Back to 57 ... Sure got a surprise this morning after installing FX 57 without NoScript the other day: Magically, NoScript popped into my FX 57 this morning. By surprise. I'm having to figure out how to use its new format. Possible issue: now and then, a blank window labeled NoScript will pop up on my screen, but I'm not sure what to do/see, on it/with it, and so I close it -- maybe a small bug for now? Geez, this appearance of NoScript happened while I was on the land-line phone, watching and using my PC screen to study a product, talking to a jewelry sales rep (at James Allen, in case you ever need fine jewelry), and trying to spec things to place an expensive order! But, we kept it all rolling, for now. Anyone else seeing NoScript do this on your new FX 57?

Are you speaking about the Mint repositories? I'm asking about Kubuntu 18.04 repositories. The latest Mint isn't yet based on 18.04, AFAIK.

Yes, Linux Mint 18.2, Sadly, I can no longer run Kubuntu on my 32 bit systems. I would keep an eye on the Kubuntu 18.04 repositories, watching for FF 57 release.

Why not? I think it's only Ubuntu that's dropped 32-bit isos. This site lists both 32- and 64-bit isos for Kubuntu.

I've hashed this on other threads, here. Kubuntu (KDE) both 14.04 and 16.04 will no longer install on my older system. I gave up some time ago and moved to Linux Mint (XFCE), but I still read and participate on this forum because it has good info and good people. For me, it's no big deal so long as the Desktop Environment works on my systems.

16.04 runs fine on my home desktop in 32 bit form. In full disclosure, Mint 18.2 Cinnamon (32 bit) also runs just fine on my laptop. Keep checking the Kubuntu releases for 32 bit ISOs, if that's a priority, but otherwise Mint is a fine distro. They're all Ubuntu based!

When 18.04.1 LTS is popped out, I'l probably run 64 bit just because my desktop system can.

Since FF57 is a very recent development, I wouldn't expect to see it in 18.04 immediately. I'm guessing the devs have higher priorities, but it will at some point

In 14.04, with FX Quantum 57, I finally decided today to disable the darned NoScript, as it just ain't workin' too good (for me). Anyone else have experience in FX 57 with the "new" No Script?

chimak111 -- thanks for that 1st link, goes to dedoimedo's page on the newest NoScript. Dedo is well-known around here as he has written many good tutorials. That'll be on my To-Do list!
