    Going in a circle

For 2 weeks I have been unable to log on to Kroger’s digital coupons page. When I click on its “Sign in” link, this message appears: “Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party.

Are you sure you want to continue sending this information?”

If I then click on Continue instead of Cancel, I am returned to the prior page with the “Sign in” link. It won’t take me to the “sign in” page. I have examined Firefox’s Preferences, and I find nothing on the topic. Until 2 weeks ago, I would click on Continue, and it would take me to the Sign-in page.

I used a Windows computer yesterday at the library, and everything worked fine; so the problem is with my machine. If you know what the problem may be, please tell me. I’m running Kubuntu 14.04.

Check the webpage system requirements to see if they have changed.

    Is there a Java requirement?

You can also try changing the Firefox user agent string to tell the webpage you are using the latest version of Internet Explorer on Windows 7.

I'm not finding anything on the webpage for browser requirements.

You can also try clearing clearing your browser cache.

I just found the page that says cookies are required for login. Are you blocking cookies by chance?

I get those problems now and then in Firefox. Do you have NoScript installed as a Firefox add-on? If so, you may have to click NoScript to allow that website (and maybe allow others, too, like "temporarily allow all this page").

Thank you for suggesting possible sources of the problem.

I checked my cookies setting. Cookies are NOT blocked; so that is not the problem.

I have installed no add-ons to Firefox; so that’s not the problem.

Let’s return to my original post, which is: When I click on Kroger’s “Sign in” link, this message appears: “Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party.

Are you sure you want to continue sending this information?”

That info and query seem strange to me. All I did was click on the “Sign in” link. Doing so does not try to send any confidential info. The only info that I am sending at that point is: “Please present the 2 fields that allow me to enter my user ID and Password.” Once I enter those 2 data and try to send them to Kroger, then an encryption concern arises. And I clicked on the Continue button, which says “Go ahead and send it.” But it doesn’t, and I do not understand why it doesn’t. I surf the web every day and visit many sites. I have no such problem with any other site, and I log in to other sites (such as TD Ameritrade, where I have an account).

              I tested this on my Kubuntu 14.10 64-bit, KDE 4.14.2 PC. I use Firefox "Aurora" 35.0a2 (2014-11-03).

I create an account with Kroger and identified my store as one in San Antonio, TX. I had no issues clicking on the Coupons tab.

I logged out and went to the Kroger home page and clicked on the Coupons tab:

I clicked Sign in to Load and entered my account information and clicked Sign In. No issues at all.

IMHO, you are missing "something" in your Kubuntu/KDE installation/setup.

My original post contains this sentence: "Until 2 weeks ago, I would click on Continue, and it would take me to the Sign-in page." And I might add that I would sign in successfully, and I would load the coupons to my Kroger card. Everything worked fine--until about 2 weeks ago.

I pay online all of my utility bills; I bank online and pay online my credit card bill. Each of those companies requires me to log in. Everything works fine, and everything worked fine at the Kroger site until about 2 weeks ago.

I wish I had another browser, but I don't. I think I'll upgrade to Kubuntu 14.10 and see what happens.

Thank you for your kind attempt to help me solve the problem.

Its very easy to install another browser. Id give Chromium a try. You can install it through Muon or in the terminal:
                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get install chromium-browser

A week ago I used Muon to examine the options available for non-Firefox browsers. I saw 3 comments about Chromium. The second of those comments disturbed me. I have been very busy with other matters, and I did not want to spend the time to resolve problems with a new browser; so I did not install Chromium. Your post suggests that my concerns are unwarranted; so I will install it today and see what happens. Thanks for your advice.

I installed Chromium and the codecs files required to get internet music to play, and I have imported my bookmarks from Firefox. I went to the Kroger site, signed in, and loaded some digital coupons to my Kroger card; so the new browser solved that (Firefox) problem. Thank you for your help.

Have you tried PURGING FireFox (not just uninstalling it), and then reinstalling it?

A difference must exist between "purging" and "uninstalling" an application or you would not have asked the question. I must admit that I do not know what that difference is. Perhaps you will be kind enough to explain to me that difference. I will be grateful.

Generally, purge removes all configuration files and folders created just for the package in question. Uninstall only removes package.

Uninstall is best when you plan on re-installing and want to keep old configs. Purge is best when you're trying to nuke something out of your install.
