    Interesting. I'd tend to break up the task somehow.

    Also, I've been annoyed by huge free up memory exercises, just before a programme exits and the whole process gets torn down anyway. It's like the disapproval associated with leaking memory motivates coders to clean it all up, even though in bad cases most of it is in swap and has very bad locality so much time is wasted on a pointless exercise (in the reported case days).
