Most useful Linux and Windows apps for a USB stick?

I've ordered myself a 64GB USB stick to keep on my keys, and was trying to decide what the most useful set of apps to put on it would be.

I'll be using it on both Linux and Windows machines.

I know I'd like to use part of the disk as a bootable live USB, but I haven't decided which distro would be most useful.

On a separate partition I'd like to put some portable apps like PuTTY on there for when I'm on a Windows machine.

I'd love to hear your recommendations for apps and/or distros!

Parted Magic would be my choice of distro. It's no longer free, but minimal cost ($4.99). http://partedmagic.com/

I have found Portable Linux Apps http://portablelinuxapps.org/ useful when working on systems booted in Linux already.

When working on Windows machines http://portableapps.com/ has some great software for fixing/testing Windows systems.

Laptop: HP EliteBook 8460p Core-i5-2540M, 4Gb ram, Transcend 120Gb SSD, currently running Deepin 15.8 and Manjaro KDE 18.

There might be some good tips in this recent thread:

I believe I came to the conclusion that aptosid looks good, into which I would add everything else (but, note that it already comes with many things, which I now forget what, but like TestDisk, gparted). A lot of people, especially for working on Windows, use Puppy, so I have read. (TestDisk always includes PhotoRec, which you may know.)

The last free versions of the LiveCD and LiveUSB of PartedMagic are here:

But, $4.99 for a copy is trivial.

                This is just amazing knowledge:

                a) Feathers thanks very much for starting it!
                b) Rod J those links to "portable apps"..........

                I had NO clue!

Of course being cluless, ... that is kind of just me, but....I think, personally that maybe a lot of other users don't know about them either...

I, personally, would recommend that an admin promote this to a sitcky thread somewhere in the forum!

Again, thanks muchly to both of you!
