Intel announced "Edison", an SD size computer running Linux

Intel built a processor for wearable computing, and now it has a tiny computer where that processor can live. At CES 2014, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced Edison, "a full Pentium-class PC" that's the size and shape of the SD card you might otherwise put in your camera. It's powered by a dual-core Quark SOC, runs Linux, and has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, according to the company. Intel even has a specific app store designed for Edison, and a special version of Wolfram that will come to the tiny computer

Incredible. Maybe in a couple of years all of our appliances will have a slot for one of these?

Yes. And look at what happened when he listened to the tech guy and allowed all the computers to be connected in order to perform the jump calculations faster. Cylon viruses! Do you really want Cylon viruses controlling your toaster?

No, but other people's toasters being controlled by viruses could be interesting!

Better start working on virginmary_toast_0.1, you could have a lot of fun with that!

I am amused by ads which feature people using an app on their smart phone to lock the doors of their house after they've arrived at the restaurant, or because their kid forgot to lock them when he stopped by on his way to meet them at their summer house. It would sure make it easier for a tech savvy thief to UNLOCK the doors and turn on the toaster!

Curiously, there were some articles lately that said that SOC might run too hot. But, guess they fixed that.

But, sipping a rum 'n coke ........I got to thinking....it would be kewl if...........somehow......... one could put a Linux on the thing that would, when it was inserted into the slot would "take over a tablet, in some way, and just run off the card not the ARM processor...just a thought.
