    Download speed - IPv6 vs IPv4

I was curious about it because my IPv6 tunnel seemed faster than my IPv4. The results are that my IPv6 is about 70% FASTER than IPv4. Don't know why...

That site told me "Your internet connection is not IPv6 capable".

Then in terminal I ran some tests and it shows info about my IPv6 connection being available??

Also noticed this testing site only runs for France, Netherlands, or Romania.

Nothing in IPv6 makes it inherently faster than IPv4. I suspect what you're seeing is the effects of different routing paths. The IPv4 path may involve traversing more nodes from point A to point B than the IPv6 path. You can check this traceroute -4 destination and traceroute -6 destination.

        You're right.

You know, Steve, that is what is so aggravating about getting old. I used to know that stuff like the back of my hand. Now, I not only don't know, I don't even suspect. I should have thought of that!

Oh, I disagree. I've spent my entire career in networks and currently work for a company that specializes in network performance, so I'm frequently thinking along such dimensions. When I read your posts about the ways you've made databases sing, I think "Wow, that's a skill I'll never have." Each of us has unique talents that, together, make everyone better.

"The whole is stronger than the parts"? Are you channeling Spock?

You are right about the speed thing. I just redid it and my IPv4 was twice as fast as IPv6.

Whois didn't give an IP address so I didn't run traceroute.

Wise words actually. Nobody adheres to either. ME is the key now.

The IP address is displayed on screen when you start the test, after you select a server location.

The IP address shown on my screen is mine, not the IP address of the test server.

                    Ha! You're right, my apologies.

You could always have a peek with Wireshark? Would do it myself because I'm curious, but my ISP doesn't have ipv6 support yet
