[SOLVED] Top shows %CPU at 180-190 during avconv

    Hi all,

If I run top while avconv is converting a video, it shows avconv using 180-190 %CPU.

This can't be right, can it? Does the % mean something other than percentage?

    Thanks,

    Feathers

Umm, did you mean 180-190 of 200% or 400%? Why I am asking is because my Intel quad idles at 2% of 400% sitting at the 'desktop', 'workspace', whatever you want to call it. Open System Monitor, at the top of the CPU% column, one left click on it to sort by most CPU% consumption and see what's 'guzzling' the cycles.

Oh, sorry, just re-read your post, you are talking during a 'conversion', when I convert an .mkv, etc with DVDStyler, it utilizes all four cores, each at about 70-80%, totalling 280-320% out of 400%, I am glad it consumes so many cycles, it gets done faster that way. Even though all four cores are so busy, I can still do other things without a problem.
