Heh, I wonder how Firefox manages to restore it's state since it is a gtk app and probably doesn't use or inherit KMainWindow class?

I think Firefox handles it own state management in its profile (disk folder). If you don't override the profile Firefox is using, it will open a single default app instance of Firefox and then see what the profile says.

One thing it doesn't know or care about, in my experience, is having multiple windows on different virtual desktops or activities. If you closed with multiple windows (and have preferences set to reopen closed tabs and windows), they will all open in the current virtual desktop & activity.
