The fact is there are manufactures who build PCs that have Linux pre-installed. True, they are smaller concerns and their pricing is considerably higher than comparable 'main stream' PCs that come with Windows. While I might like to get a refund for the 'fee' added to the OEM PC that comes with Windows pre-installed, I prefer to purchase such a PC than spending the $$$ on the higher priced Linux OEM PCs. $$$ do speak, and I shop where my $$$ get me the most.

The other option a consumer has is to buy the component parts and build their own PC (Desktop) and install the OS of their choice.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

well yes .......heck you can build a desktop and get better hardware for less than you can by a prebuilt system!!

and if you do like me and build from the discarded refuse (side of the road)of your town you can get them free

however you usually get a box that's prity long in the tooth if you know what I meen.

I have 4 boxes (currently) that were acuierd that way

I even have the first box I was ever given ......A Aptiva (I think that's right) 150Mhz CPU stufed with 90Mib RAM and a light speed 128 vid.graphics .....it still runs win 98SE ..............LOL

      VINNY

      i7 4core HT 8MB L3 2.9GHz
      16GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 860M 4GB RAM 1152 cuda cores

Does the term racketeering come to mind?

Which is, if one has the skills to do this, the best option.

Probably not much use for those in the States but in Europe there is

                    http://novatech.co.uk/

They have an option to buy any of their computers without any operating system at all. We are currently awaiting delivery of this one for my son

                    http://novatech.co.uk/laptop/range/n...ckedition.html

He has gone for the windows 7 option but he's a gamer. However, it should be noted that without an OS the machine is £90 cheaper.

And their user forum has a linux section too. I'll feed back on how good he thinks his laptop is - if it's any good that will probably be where my next machine comes from.

Also Dell ( or at least someone within Dell) appears to be trying to do something, but I won't hold my breath
