ok so instaed of wiping the Ubuntu-12.04-x86-64 I had on the testing partition I decided to just dist-upgrade it (500+packages) and add the ia32-libs to it , this did not want to remove a bunch of stuff as it did in Kubuntu ,,,, then installed the steam.deb ,,,,,let it update ,,,,and it will launch ,,,,,but I am having trouble finding any linux games ?

I have 21 linux games on it now, after activating all my my steam keys from humble indie bundle, shame they don't have all of the linux compatible games yet (I have allot more games from humble in steam, just not the Linux versions yet), but I bet over time more will appear.

Some ones that I like (and are in my linux steam list) are:
Amnedia: the dark descent - If you like horror games give this one a try (I really do highly recomend this, but not if you scare easily)
Osmos - A nice and relaxing game
World of goo - A really fun puzzle solver
        Uplink - A hacker simulation
        DEFCON - Cold war/arms race
And yet it moves - An interesting plat-former with shifting gravity :S

I'm bypassing to get into the beta. Not a bad effort by Valve, they reply to the users that they are looking into the more serious bugs such as CPU hogging and mis-managed file locations.

I'm not getting a tray icon though in KDE? And has anyone been able to access the Store yet? Can only access the Windows/Mac stores.

Nor am I (also by-passing the beta) I think it is due to the way we are bypassing the beta signup so I don't think there is much we can do about it now. I also cannot access the Linux store, I bet for the same reason. I see no reason why you cannot buy the linux compatible games through the windows/mac store the only trouble you will have is knowing what is supported on Linux by steam atm.

Here are the games I have available:
            Amnesia: the dark decent*
            Osmos*
            Uplink*
            World of Goo*
            Defcon*
            And yet it moves*
            VVVVVV
            Cogs
            Darwinia
            Dungeons of Dredmor
            Frozen Synapse
            LIMBO
            Multiwininia
            Psychonauts
            Space Pirates and zombies
            SpaceChem
            Steal Storm: Burning Retribution
            Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP
            Aquaria
            Braid
            Team Fortress 2

Most of these where obtained from the humble indie bundle so if you have any steam keys from them now is the time to add them I haven't tired them all yet, but some require installing extra 32bit libs before they will work.

            * The ones I liked the most out of the ones I have played

I didn't know that Steam was now avalible for linux! Maybe now i can play Skyrim since wine 1.5 won't install MS netframwork. How do I get this for Linux? When i click download Steam i get a windows msi file.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

it will not run on my Kubuntu 12.04-x86_64 but it did on my Ubuntu install of the same ver and arch. with the ia32libs
I'm DLing a Kubuntu 12.10-i386 to try it on and see how the 12.10 installer is behaving (thare have been a few posts griping about it)

Unfortunately I doubt skyrim will ever be native on Linux. Steam on Linux does not mean every game under steam will magically work. Steam are porting source based games to Linux, so we well have some great titles to play, but it is up to the developers of each game if they want to support Linux. The engine skyrim uses has a hard enough time running on windows so I doubt they are going to port it to Linux.

That said, it should work under wine... did you try a clean prefix? I suggest trying the following:

                        Code:
export WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/skyrim # Change this to where you want it installed, best to use absolute paths rather then relitive
rm -rfI $WINEPREFIX # Remove it if it exists
wineboot -u # Click cancel when it asks to download/install mono
                        winetricks corefonts xact vcrun2008 d3dx9_42 dotnet35
                        winetricks win7
                        winetricks --no-isolate steam
                        winetricks win7
Then install skyrim in steam (hint copy the ../Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim folder from your old prefix if you don't want to have to re-download it.)
