    MAME problems

I have ROMs I've carried with me since the early '90s, but I haven't actually used anything MAME-related in years. I recently got the urge to try playing some of those old games, but I'm stuck.

I've installed MAME 0.141; in its menu entry I have:

    Code:
    /usr/games/mame -rp /usr/games/MAME
where /usr/games/mame is the executable and -rp /usr/games/MAME points to the directory where my ROMs are stored (each in their own subdirectory). Note that these ROMs have been used many times over the years and are definitely complete.

But when I attempt to play any game, I get this (select for larger):

MAME is correctly identifying each game from its subdirectory, as you can see from its menu, but that's as far as I'm getting. Since I know the files are complete...I'm at a loss.

No, not by default--but I chose it manually.

Hmmmm...never heard of it. I'll have to see what it's about...

EDIT: After installing mupen64plus and having it fail to run any of my ROMs (it bombed on each one with a "Couldn't open ROM" error message), I went to their game compatibility page, and I don't see any of my games listed. I didn't know whether a Nintendo 64 emulator would/could run my ROMs, but I figured it was worth a try. Unfortunately, I'm back at square one.
