I have the penumbra set of three. They are not shoot'm ups or monster shows. They remind me of the old 1990's game by Brøderbund called "Myst", where a stranger finds clues about people on an island and developers their life stories. In the Penumbra series you play the role of someone trapped in a structure and you explore it in order to find clues about how to get out.
"A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”
– John F. Kennedy, February 26, 1962.
Myst....Yea, I remember that. I found it very challenging. Just played some of the Demo. Not a shoot em up either and along the same lines of what you mention but more "Dark". I'm afraid I might get addicted to this one. Someone here mentioned WideLands and I'm already addicted to that one. Here I go again with these things. After 30+ years you'd think you've seen them all.
