    Recommended Games

I hope this is okay to post a small request for games here.

So I am wondering, what games do you guys recommend?

I am after fighting games(3d would be best 2d is okay)
MMORPG games(linux based or compatibility with wine)
    FPS(3d and 2d)

Please tell me some good or recommended games if it's not too much!

    Thanks in advance !

I run Call of Duty (CoD), Cod - United Offensive and CoD 2 under Wine. Although the games are all WW2 they are surprisingly varied and involving.

One thing to be aware of when running games requiring an accelerator card is that NVidia cards are very well supported under Linux (if you install the proprietary drivers using Adept that is) but the same probably isn't true for ATi cards. I've got a 7600GS based card and the above games run flat out under Wine.

Anything based on the Quake 3 engine will almost certainly run.

    Look at:

    http://appdb.winehq.org/appbrowse.php?iCatId=16

for info on games which run under wine (or not!) before buying.

Nexiuz is pretty damned good, in my humble opinion.

If runs pretty well on my machine. BTW, I am using an ATI Radeon card with 3D accelerated graphics driver enabled.

Am using Intel GM945 Express and I don't know if I have 3D accelerated graphics in kubuntu.

OpenArena: Open source Quake clone using the Quake engine.

Get it from http://www.openarena.ws and not the repositories. The repo is a version behind.

You need to go to System>Hardware Drivers Manager and see if a proprietary driver is available

No problem. I've played it quite a lot. Don't forget to visit their forums too. Their forums have great support (or at least last I was actively playing) and it's also a good place to find new maps to play around with and test. It's kind of interesting to watch and be part of a map growing from an alpha stage to fully functional.

A couple old links I had bookmarked... it has been a while since I played any of them... but most worked well that I tried. There was a Battlestar Galactica game that seemed cool, but wasnt quite finished yet...
