    md5 question

just a random question... I have noticed when I go to download pages I normally see a link for a MD5 checksum... Maybe this is a dumb question but what relevance does that have?

    Re: md5 question

Hm AFAIK, checksum is to check whether the sent package is the same with the real one. Usually there is checksum in download because the user can compare whether the package has been change during the journey from server to your computer by noise. So, after comparing the md5 is same, you can rest assure that the package that you received is exactly same with the package in the server. CMIIW

      Yes, garry is right.

It's a way to know for sure that the file that you have downloaded is bit-for-bit identical to the file that you thought you were getting from the source location.
