    yes it dose well at TOTAL usage of the btrfs file system ,,,,,,,but not just the running system .

    I have 2 installs in this file system ,,,,so I am getting the combined usage of both installs in that output ,,,,and like I said "df" gives the same (approximately) usage ,,,,,,,saying / is using 9-10GB when in fact this install is using only 3.3GB as dolphin calculates it ,,,,if I mount /dev/sda1 first so I can see the subvolumes and right click>properties.

      Vinny, what version of btrfs-tools btrfs-progs do you have? If it's greater than 4.5 you should be able to:

      sudo btrfs fi du -s

      I think this may work on the device rather than the mountpoint.

        Correction, it works on mount point. Running it here on a Kubuntu 17.04 virtual install (btrfs-progs v. 4.9.1-1) it shows;

        5.12GiB for /
        183.03MiB for /mnt/sda1/@home
        5.24GiB for /mnt/sda1 (whole device)

                What's the story on btrfs-progs?
                I see from the launchpad site here that version 4.9.1 (in the Other section) for Xenial is available.

                Install btrfs-progs and leave them both, or remove btrfs-tools?

                  Seems like its the same package that got renamed after 4.4 or so. See the Ubuntu page and look at the various versions. Xenial and before it's btrfs-tools, Yakkety and after it's btrfs-progs

                    According to Glenn Washburn's PPA, btrfs-tools is now a "transitional dummy package"

                      I added his PPA, run update/upgrade and it installed btrfs-progs and upgraded btrfs-tools (likely for compatibility):

                      Code:
                      $ sudo btrfs fi du -s /
                      Total       Exclusive    Set shared   Filename
                      150.71GiB   122.51GiB    13.34GiB        /

                        Thanks, Oshunluver! I'm going to do the same.
                        I am getting ready to convert my two internal drives to a RAID1 system.

                                "du -s" does the trick!

                                My raid1 system is performing beautifully!
