no audio

    [SOLVED] no audio

    Well, I do have audio on my plantronic wireless headset and HDMI output. I get nothing on built in audio however . They all work in windows so I know the hardware is good. When I look in settings, built-in analog stereo is listed.

    When I try test, it reacts as though it is playing the test tones but I hear nothing. Ran alsamixer and turned sound up, still nothing.

    Any help appreciated. ubuntu is fresh install, not an update. btw, the built-in sound worked in 12.04 and 13.10

    What Backend are you using? The installed default (I think) is GStreamer. Try installing phonon-backend-vlc and then setting it as the default Backend.
    Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      I tried that. no help there. Imperfect workaround for now is to plug the speakers into the monitors hdmi sound output port. It works, but doesnt sound quite as good

            Under the audio setup tab what does it say?

            I know on my Laptop I have to set it to internal speakers or headphones.
