    projectM-pulseaudio

I just found and wanted to share this nice pulseaudio projectm plug in ....................

I liked clementine for projectm but it sucks up the CPU pretty good.

this works with anything going through pulse .......so like right now it's chugging along with my mp3 music collection playing in mpg123 in a terminal ...............nice 8)

Vinny - Looks cool but played hell with my system when I tried to make it play nice with any KWin rules (like Keep above others, for example). My guess is that it hasn't been tested under KDE/Qt. Froze my system, ate all available memory, and forced a hard reboot.

well I was going to post this nice screen shot of it running on the wide screen with the "keep above others" and VLC under it and it doing fine

but then as I was in my picasa web acct. ..................it froze using 101% CPU .......no system freeze and I could kill it but still ......dang that’s probably what was killing clementine on me as well .............O well back to XBMC (which seems to do ok)............LOL

heh. Well, glad it wasn't just me, I guess

It seemed to play well enough when just left alone, but any movement of the window or whatnot seemed to send it into a tailspin. If I have time today I'll check Launchpad for related bugs as this really shouldn't be available in it's current state if your experience and mine are any indication.

curious thing is XBMC uses projectm as well (but its own build) and it's running just fine at about 15-20% CPU as showen by top running full screen on the wide screen ..........strange!!

Tangentially related, but perhaps of interest... PulseAudio 2.0 was released in May. It's in Quantal now, but if you want to add it to Precise, you can via the Ubuntu Audio Dev Team PPA. I've been using it since it first showed up, and can report that it works very well.
