I went through all of those steps also, and I didn't type them, I copied and pasted so the stuff was correct, I guess maybe I just messed up the pooch somehow.

      Re: coverflow

      @woodsmoke: i just installed it.
      here is how.
      Code:
      sudo apt-get update
      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
      sudo apt-get update
      now go to kpackage/muon
kpackage: Settings->Edit origin (right hand side bottom button)->enter password->Other softwares
locate team-xbmc ppa from the list -> edit
now just replace maveric in text box by lucid.. and then install xbmc.

        Re: coverflow

@vinny: coverflow was not present in default skin..which was confluence. thanks for telling to download a skin.
the coverflow is present in pm3.hd skin.

        i am almost there.
Here is what i am trying to do:
I have a different partition other than \home\ to store my data which is pictures and music.
The music folder holds my complete music collection.
In amarok, we can configure the "collection path" so as to point to the music folder. so that amarok scans folders and adds the songs in its collection/music library.

@vinny: the snapshot which you have posted has "music library" written at the top. while in my case it is showing plain folder view.
can you please tell, how you have configured xbmc to display music library instead of folder view?

          Hi
          I updated no problem,
added the repository and tried the second update and here is what I got. This is on a plain vanilla MM distro right off the cd.

          woodsmoke:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
          Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 189701DA570C56B9488EF60A6D975C4791E7EE5E
gpg: requesting key 91E7EE5E from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 91E7EE5E: "Launchpad PPA for XBMC for Linux" not changed
          gpg: Total number processed: 1
          gpg: unchanged: 1
          woodsmoke:~$ sudo apt-get update
E: Type 'main' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/team-xbmc-ppa-maverick.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.

I did the replacement of maverick with lucid
when I closed it said that it could not initialize a source
when i went to get remove software the xbmc is the first entry but I get:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc: Depends: xbmc-data (= 1:9.11-lucid3) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: xbmc-skin-confluence (= 1:9.11-lucid3) but it is not going to be installed or
xbmc-skin-pm3-hd (= 1:9.11-lucid3) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: xbmc-web-pm3 (= 1:9.11-lucid3) but it is not going to be installed

          soooo

I think I went through this exact same procedure at least once in the 6 or seven procedures I've done

          so...dunno

                  no error messages running apt-get?
Something fundamental is missing here, either in my instructions, or what steps you followed. Posting the error message is key to helping determine what it may be.

If you can't get it running in Maverick, you won't be able to get it running in natty. If you haven't edited the apt repository line or run apt-get update (or checked for updates in kpk) before looking it will never show up.

then you either you have not run sudo apt-get update beforehand or possibly have conflicting repos added. I suspect the former.

yes of course .....the first screen you come to after going to music or videos, picturs should have an icon to "add source" IF the drive/partition holding the data is mounted you can navigate to it and add it after adding it as a source it will show in the first screen ......right click it and then "scan to library" as the data is scanned to the library it will DL info and alblum art ........

                          @vinny: awesome!!! thanks a lot
now i get the album cover flow. superb.
though.. one more question..xbmc is taking full screen. i want it to open just like other program. in windowed mode. so that i can shift between different application using alt+tab. i cant find anything in settings tab.

EDIT: full screen toggles by '\' key

P.S. i am not marking this thread as solved till woodsmoke's problem is solved.
