      Re: Great Image!

      Thanks.

This is a Gimp creation, using three images taken from the 'Net. The bottom portion - the beach - was from a photograph uploaded as a wallpaper image on kde-look. The middle portion - the clouds - was taken from another wallpaper image, and the top portion is from a picture of the Milky Way. The moon is also from the image used for the clouds.

I already had the Clouds and Moon image when I saw the beach photo on kde-look. I knew right then that I could create a visually stunning compilation using parts of both. When I got started, I also realized that I wanted a 'starry night' to give it a truely surreal look.

It took a bit to get all the parts to 'seamlessly' blend so that it looks like one photograph, and I think I did a pretty good job. I liked the results a lot. One of my better attempts if I do say so myself.

Cool! If you'd like, I'll make one without the moon, so it won't interfer with Luna. I'll email it to you.

Long nights? Yes. On the Winter Solstice - December 21 this year - here, in South Central Alaska (Anchorage area), we will have over 18 hours of 'darkness'. (only 5h 26m 58s of 'daylight')

This wallpaper is available here on kde-look, which may be better (?) than downloading it from our Gallery.

                        Re: Great Image!

That is a great wally on several levels, in my opinon.

                        a) it is very dramatic and has many levels of meaning, depending upon the viewer's background.

                        b) When one considers that it is a construct it has no "technical" flaws that I can perceive, like "edges".

                        c) it meets a technical "requirement" of wallpapers that I have always set for myself, when I tried to make one.

And that is that the left side, even though it has "stuff" there, should not be "visually cluttered" so that people who like to keep folders or icons on the desktop and default them to the left will be able to quickly scan/see/interact with them.

There are a lot of very beutiful wallys out there that don't work well as a desktop in those terms. Of course, if one does not have icons on the desktop it is no big deal.

But, this wally meets both audiences equally well.

                        Great work!

                          Re: Great Image!

I did another rendition of this one, which is also posted on kde-look here.

It's a larger format - 1920x1200 - and personally, a much better composition. The 'sky' section was changed. I'm using it as my desktop wallpaper at the moment.
