I am not sure but I think Povray http://www.povray.org/ might be such a thing. It is available from Debian.

Looking more closely it seems maybe you need a modeler like wings3d or kpovmodeler and then use povray to render?

Hmm - - do yo mean: a program that will transform a 2D image into 3D model ??

      > Make3D: Turn a 2D Picture Into a 3D Model

or do you mean something else ?

blender was a nightmare so far
The blender user interface is... well, lets say that it needs a lot of love .

      Few tutorials (Blender):

      > Blender 3D: Noob to Pro/2D Image (logo) to a 3D Model
      > Creating a Logo

      Alternatives:

      Mesh modelling (as Blender):
      > Wings 3D
      > Wings 3D - wiki

      - wings3d is at the repositories as the povray & blender.

      3D CAD:
      > KDE-Apps >> VariCAD
      - License: Proprietary License
      Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?
      1. Thread: Please explain how to access old kubuntu forum posts
      2. Thread: Lost Information

If you wan a 3D modeller simpler than blender, you might want to try misfit model 3D. It is not professional 3D software, but it is good for some simple 3d modelling.

this required boost1.39 if you have ooh about 2 hours or more to watch the screen scroll doing the same compiling mess and endlessly repeating itself it seems. i tried misfit 3d also and it said qt and opengl not linked even after i installed qt3 and 4 so maybe blender maybe my best option free is what it is . :-) so blender wore i am an the other software never installed so i guess ill have to wait.
