I was actually thinking of the orange that I had on here, way back when I was using phpBB. But it would probably be best to stick with the blue.

As a thought, maybe the buttons could do without the icons altogether?

At least the icons in the original ones are too small to be really informative, and removing them would create more space for the text itself. (You could even experiment with using the '(k)ubuntu' font...might look nice if it stays readable :P)

Removing the icons would also help in keeping the button look consistent and sleek (and make it easier and quicker to 'mass produce' all the buttons)

You could still use icons in the link bar and side panels (and perhaps make them a bit larger), but the 'buttons' might look better without them.

This is just a personal opinion though, I'm sure there are people who like the button icons as well.

And thanks for all the work you've done so far...take my opinions just as suggestions, I don't wish to taint your artistic vision

It doesn't sound like that bad an idea... I could make a slick roll over effect for the bar to give it a little something extra. Maybe the bar will glow or something when your mouse is over the corresponding link.

Open Source, thoughts?

I'd still like to optimize the icons just below the header for that size though. They're almost readable, but it looks like they were probably just 32x32 and shrunk to 16x16 without any retouching. Also, I may be way off base here, but does anyone else hate the icon for the shoutbox? I have come to appreciate the usefulness of the shoutbox, but the 3-D one-eyed pacman just isn't working for me... lol.

A mouse over effect would probably look real good. Give us a sample.
