I do that, too, GG--but I'm shutting down all my programs when I'm done for the day. I like to start fresh in the morning. So although I don't have to log in once KFN has loaded, it still has to load...because I've just started up SeaMonkey for the day. Oh well. No biggie.

      Great minds must think alike!
When I am done for the day I shut off my audio speakers, my mouse and then I shutdown Kubuntu. Then I flip the switch on the power strip to shut power off to the lamp and the printer. Then I pull the power cord out of the wall.
A couple of years ago this box got hit my an electrical surge from a lightening bolt and it took out my eth0. Ergo, I usually plug things back in and turn them on around 10 to noon, and shut them down between 10pm and midnight.

Shoot...just to even be MENTIONED in the same category as you, someone I admire so much, makes me blush.

Many years ago, I had a modem (the dial-up kind) that got fried by a lightning strike. But you know, live and learn! From that point on, I've kept all my really important things plugged in to surge-slayers. I mean computers, not stuff like my microwave. I know that's still no guarantee that they can't be damaged, but now that I don't live in Tornado Alley any more (the Dallas area, where torrential downpours, tornadoes, lightning, thunderstorms with horizontal rain, and power surges/outages were COMMON), I'm not too concerned. In the 15 years since I moved back home to Southern California, I think I've heard thunder...one...two...yeah, maybe three times!

You've still got 180-200 years left in your drought!

Not so fast! It RAINED last night. I mean actual, measurable rain.

            I was speechless.

This has devolved from the original issue, and as there really isn't something wrong with KFN itself, other than the possible slight time delay due to ZBBlock protecting KFN, I'm closing this thread.
