    Why so slow?

Perhaps this has been addressed before [when I was gone?], so excuse me if it has. But why is KFN always so much slower loading than any other site I routinely use?

I've never timed it or anything like that, so don't ask me for stats! I just know that I have to wait longer for anything to load on KFN than anywhere else. Like when I fire up SeaMonkey, and it's loading its default set of sites in tabs, KFN is always the last to load.

Is this related to... whatever the new forum software is called? Can anything be done to speed it up? Am I the only one who notices its slowness? Sometimes it's so bad, I wonder if the site is down.

I have to say that I'm nearly 100% positive it isn't us. I don't notice what you are describing. Do you by chance have plugins or such in use with SeaMonkey? Do you notice this at particular times of the day?

It can be slower to load than other fora, though for me it is not a major slowness, just noticeable diufference
KFN is pretty much always is the last to load of my bookmarked tabs, no matter which browser, connection (100mb Comcast, similarly fast mobile, some else's wifi), computer, OS, or location.

I don't know about Sea Monkey, but Firefox has a command abouterformance that allows you to check on running processes related to the browser.

I'm with @claydoh, it's just always slower than any of my other normal sites, and it doesn't matter which device I'm using. It's equally slow on a hard-wired desktop, a brand-new laptop and a brand-new Android phone on Wi-Fi.

The add-ons/extensions I'm currently running on SeaMonkey shouldn't affect one site, and only one site, in terms of page loading speed. And, yes, SM (being Firefox's parent) also has about:performance, but I hadn't used it in ages. Maybe I should. EDIT: I just did. Then I clicked a link here, and SM reported that KFN may be slowing down SeaMonkey.

It's not a huge deal, I mean really, in the scheme of things it's incredibly trivial, but I was just wondering about it. As noted, at times it's so slow that I actually wonder if the site's down. There's no particular time that it's worse, at least not that I've noticed.

Now that I'm using a computer regularly again, I'm accessing KFN between roughly 10:00am and 5:00pm. When I was primarily using mobile devices...well, I wasn't here much. During that time, on the rare occasions I'd venture to a computer, it was consistently slow. It's been happening for so long, I thought I'd just ask to see if it's a known issue!

I can actually confirm the observation on Firefox. Be it on WiFi or on ethernet: Other forums load almost instantly whilst this one takes a few seconds.
If it was hand coded, I'd say, either the CMS is Typo3 (which I don't think) or the underlying database for the forum is badly indexed but this seems to be a standard forum software, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Not really a thing to worry about, but a bit strange.

There is going to be a slight delay bringing up KFN, as the connection is being evaluated by our site protection (ZBBlock). But, the slight delay is just that, slight. Maybe a half-second more than you are experiencing on other sites. But that is a very small price (for us, KFN) to tolerate for the protection we get from ZBBlock.

Interesting. Like DoYouKubuntu, I have also noticed the slowness, for quite some time. But, I have not studied it to take observations etc. and can't be more precise. I just logged in, and it took some seconds to accept my PW, as one example. But, also, slow on loading. Not complaining, but being a type A personality, I do get edgy at times waiting for the extra 2-3-4 seconds or so! Ha! Just to confirm what DYK posted.

Well, I am not doubting what you, or others may be experiencing, but I don't experience it. Beside our protection script, there are so many other variables that could account for any delay(s), and they are all external to KFN.

                    @Snowhog, I'm not talking half-seconds here!

As others have confirmed, we're talking several seconds. And for me anyway, at times, so many seconds that I question whether the site's down.

I'm a type-A personality, too (or at least I was...before $hit happened), but that's not the problem here. It's not a matter of me just being too impatient. It's SLOW.

I know you're not disbelieving any of us, so please don't take this that way. And keep in mind that, as I said, this is an incredibly trivial issue in the grand scheme of things!

Indeed I do. Let me tell you that when you've literally knocked on death's door, and then spent six months in the hospital struggling to stay alive, and physically unable to do even the most basic things, like brush your hair, you learn a LOT. That's why I'm emphasizing how incredibly trivial this issue is.

I do a no-no -- I leave myself logged in. When I click the link in my browser I get the Form page within a second. When I click the "Quick Link" option they come up within a second or so, but never more than that.

I sure did! And you know what's funny? Since it automatically logged me in to my YouTube account, it automatically served up another video based on my history--and it was a Beatles video. So it worked out great, all around!
