you are running the "stable" git versions of Plasma, et al.

user = only official released stuff
          stable = less-unstable pre-release git pulls
unstable-fresh off the docks pre-release git pulls

Now you got me in a quandry, VINNY!
Should I go with deb http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial main
              or your selection?

Decisions, decisions, decisions! I was thinking of doing a scratch install of Neon, but if you are having no problem combining the repositories and can bring in the sweetness of Neon without much of a fuss that may be the way to go!

(Thanks to Claydoh for his explanation of user, stable and unstable.)

I use the 'user" as that is what I am, lol. i just want the most current, officially released Plasma and qt bits, I don't want the constant changes found in the testing, unreleased code of 'stable" or "unstable" for the most part

Mmm.. User is what I downloaded and created a persistent LiveUSB with. It is running great. Looks like I'll be adding User's repository to my sources.list.

If you are intending to convert a Kubuntu setup to Neon, just be aware that this is neither supported nor recommended, but as far as I can tell often works.

Well, I completed the transition to a Kubuntu/Neon hybrid using the "User" release. There were a few misfires during the update & dist-upgrade. The Neon key of Riddell's wasn't added so I had to add it manually. A vew apps failed for dependency reasons but all except one were eventually installed by doing the wash, rinse, repeat cycle of
                      sudo dpkg --configure -a
                      sudo apt-get install -F

Here is an example of a failure:

                      Unpacking libkf5screen7 (4:5.7.2-0neon+16.04+build10) over (4:5.6.5-0ubuntu1~ubuntu16.04~ppa1) ...

After rebooting I had to restore some system tray settings. Now I am going to give it a shake out and see what other repairs I need to do.

EDIT: The normally blue circular HPLIP system tray icon has been replaced by an icon resembling a page with a folded corner. Will work on that.

OK, running Neon full time (note the sig change )

I went with a clean install using my usual process (multi-booting from a single btrfs partition). Install went well. I still think Ubiquity should have a "No Grub" choice without having to using the -b switch at startup and it should allow you to enter your own subfolder names when using btrfs. Other than that - no issues.

Only real issue I've noticed (other than the ones I'm having with 16.04 in general) is some missing tray icons (hp-systray and synergy not displaying icons, just placeholders) and the menu icons in SimpleScan are missing. Odd but not deal breakers.

Tried joining the forums over there at Neon. Never received the e-mail to activate account. Tried to do it again and it states e-mail already used with no means to request another e-mail send.

May just wait until NetRunner decides how they are going to utilize Neon with their next release.

Their forum is on forums.kde.org. You are already a member there; I just searched Members for MoonRise and a post you made/replied to in 2013 came up. How long has it been since you logged in there?

Oops! Scratch that. MoonRise 'as a member' wasn't found. Funny though, as I did the search within Members -- I thought.

My HPLIP system tray icon is a place holder as well.

I added the Neon repository using Muon and then used the Konsole and apt-get to do the update & dist-upgrade. The download stalled with the msg that the Neon repository key was missing and displayed the key ID. I used it to find Riddell's public key and saved it to my HD as public.key. Then I used sudo apt-key add public.key to install it. I redid the dist-upgrade but it stopped abnormally. I used sudo dpkg --configure -a and sudo apt-get install -f repeatedly until I got no errors and the "System Reboot is required" message. 384 package came down the tube, IIRC.

Then I rebooted. My reboot time is about two and a half minutes until I get a working desktop. That's something I'll need to sort out.

One package refused to install during the upgrade: libkf5sscreen7, because it conflicts with libkf5screen5, which other packages are dependent on (dll hell), so the old version remains.

When I used Muon to check the repository the password dialog and the text just to the right of the "Command" label said: /usr/bin/software-properties-kde --=attach 102760453 --dont-update" When I enter my password and press the OK button instead of the repository GUI I am returned to reload dialog followed by the Muno GUI. So, I checked sources.list and saw all was in order. I installed Synaptic and it works without problems. Muon is broken.

To show the errant msg on the Muon password dialog I tried to invoke Ksnapshot but it was nowhere to be found. It's in the repository but cannot be installed because it conflicts with Okular.

Other than that adding the Neon repository has presented no other problems. I would have done a fresh install but I'm too lazy.

Jerry; I did a fresh install so didn't have to go through all that, thank goodness. BTW Ksnapshot has been replaced with "Spectacle." I'm surprised it didn't install, but maybe that was because of the PPA switch-over rather than a full installation.

On a side note: I ran into a "Disk full" issue on my 460GB btrfs pool when I initially attempted the install. It obviously wasn't actually full (df showed 69%) but I hadn't done a balance in a really long time - like a year or more. The individual drives showed full, but the pool showed 69%. I ran a balance with dusage at zero and recovered almost nothing. using dusage of 40 and then again at 70 recovered 120GB of data space. I was thinking a monthly cron job to run the balance after my fstrim job might be a good idea.
