I've been trying to submit my first post but vBulletin complains that with a post count of 0 I am not allowed to post links. The post did not actually contain any links, but did have some slashes in pathnames that I wanted to quote, so maybe that was the problem? I won't know until I submit this post and the try again to submit my original first post. In any case it seems to be an unnecessary hindrance to the first-time poster.

Apologies for the inconvenience. We have had to take a number of steps to block spammers here. While ZB Block and StopForumSpam prevent the majority of it, an occasional spammer will get through. Inevitably, their behavior is to dump one post full of links and then move on. We have instituted the additional step of requiring more than one post, as further proof that you're a real human
