Please turn off the Tapatalk notification

I've been following the "ignore threads" thread and along the same lines, it would be nice that when coming to kubuntuforums from an ipad, the notification to get Tapatalk to view the forum didn't pop up on every page. I don't know if this is something that kubuntuforums pushes to the browser or something iOS is doing on its own, but it makes viewing kubuntuforums really annoying and almost unusable from an ipad.

Is this occurring when you log in to KFN from your iPad, or only when you are browsing KFN while not logged in?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Both. You get it everytime you go to a new page on KFN, logged in or otherwise. Everytime you go to a message on the forum or switch sections it pops up.

I'm hoping that it is an issue with the iPad. Quite a few members here connect to KFN via their cell phones, and I've not heard them complain about this. Claydoh connects via TapaTalk and so does our host Open Source.

Just tried this from my Android phone. It comes up in a mobile format (the iPad comes up in the regular format). However, if you select "full site" at the bottom of the page, it starts asking about the Tapatalk. So, I don't think it is iPad specific, but something tied to the site when used from iOS and Android.

I use the tapatalk app on android, I don't use a browser on my phone to visit KFN, so I can't say I have seen this. Now, when going to another site that has tapatalk enabled (rootzwiki), I have seen one popup, which went away after dismissing it.

Just now went here using the stock browser, both full site and mobile, logged in and not, and don't see any popups.

EDIT: removed material that applies in another thread.

Sorry, but the thread inspired me to check for tapatalk on my phone with Kubu forums. I do not see it on an Android Galaxy S phone, however I did see rss feed buttons and posted a "what I saw" at the RSS tread.

If you visit your phone's market/store/bait shop, you'll find the Tapatalk app. Very handy, but I hate that the app proxies all traffic through their servers.

                Edit: correction in post #11.

You have to browse the site using a web browser. If you use the tapatalk app you are not bothered.

Interesting, do you know if this is because there is some server side format conversion being done?

Sorry...I was operating under a misconception, which I had to research a bit more to fix. Tapatalk sits on the forum server and waits for incoming connections from the mobile app. Then it retrieves the content, applies its own formatting, and delivers it to the device. Unfortunately, Tapatalk wraps tracking links around URLs, therefore it's these requests that get proxied through Tapatalk's servers. I discovered this when I blocked link.tapatalk.com with my hosts file and subsequently lost the ability to click on a URL in a forum post.

When I connect with my android phone, I don't get the tapatalk popup either -- unless I go to the bottom of the screen and select "full site" instead of the mobile site. Once you select full site, it acts just like the ipad with a popup everytime you click a link. While I could just purchase the app, I don't like having to pay for it to stop the nagging. It would be easier to quit visiting KF.

We still need to figure out why you get the popups and others do not. I just reflashed the rom on my android phone, and I went to KFN both full site and mobile and did not get a popup after the first visit. I am guessing a cookie is used, perhaps that can be adjusted. We have had tapatalk enabled since very shortly after the move to vBulletin, and this is the first time I have seen this subject come up. It is rather annoying having this occur. The problem does seem to affect iOS/Safari/ipad users from my brief investigations, but that could simply be due to the pervasiveness of the device.

                          Looking and investigating.....

No worries. Thanks for the updated info and saving me from having to research this myself.

Going OT for just a second, how come you guys use vBulletin? Not complaining as I much prefer it to IPB(but not XenForo!) from an admin and end user stand point, but given the foss of Kubuntu and linux in general I found it a bit odd to go with a premium forum software. No complaints, simply an inquiring mind.

A better forum search function was one feature  - just kidding there, couldn't resist.

It seems to be about the best one , imo. Nary a hiccup as compared to smf - which I do like still, but for what we want to do, and the users would like to have, it is outstanding so far. i just wish I had mad theming skillz to dress up the icons etc in my KFNBlue theme for a more Kubuntu like appearance.
