Code Tag Button in Quick Reply

I know there is at least one modification available via vbulletin.org(I worked on vB years ago) that adds extra editor buttons to the quick reply. Have you guys considered such a modification?

    I think it's been discussed ... I even think I requested it ... but I can't see where

It would be a good idea.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

I doubt a plugin is necessary, just a code edit on the quickreply template might suffice.

Most "mods" in vb amount to just that - but with a mechanism so they stay in place even if the quick reply template is upgraded in a core code update.

Yeah, I really don't see the point in doing a code edit when a plug in will do the job, and that's not counting ScretCode's point in regards to maintaining the mod. In most cases modifications require adding a/some PHP scripts to the server and uploading an XML(if memory serves me right) in the admin cp. If for any reason it would cause a problem in the future, a quick edit to the config.php file can over ride the vB settings in the database and disable the plug in system globally. This allows you to log in the the admin cp and disable the mod.

I like the simple code edit as it is easier for those of us who do not have upload access to the website, meaning any of us can revert out edit it is the plugin itself breaks in future vBulletin versions. It is simply defining the buttons and location.

How to do it is surely the second question ...

Claydoh, I see your point, but last I checked, it could not be done with just code edits on the templates. Others have tried using the buttons from the bbcode editor template, and placing them in the quick reply template, and it did not work. The hooks needed just arent available. Maybe thats changed though, but at glance, it doesn't look that way. Now if you edit the core php files..thats another story but then that comes back to sever level access and you are probably better off with just using the existing mod(s).

Hah! I just had to insert some code ----- by creating a simple plugin from within vb.

                  Enjoy
