Yes, listen to their criticism about ads, and THEN run the ads!

Boy, this discussion suggests so many interesting aspects of this ...
-- I would think that every single silly Republican would certainly support free enterprise advertising, right? Party of the 1% capitalists?
-- Someone doesn't like ads? Then let them start with a required base contribution of $xxx!
    ...
    ...

      What criticism and what pain?

As OP I'd like to repeat that I saw them purely by accident when logged out. I thought, if those are pay-per-view I could disable blocking on KFN and maybe other folks would care to do the same, probably unaware of their existence owing to mentioned blocking. Helping out that way if you don't mind.

But......if revenue can be generated without them, then let's do that. :-)

@OS: How about creating an account here and then asking members to sign up as well so that their searches could be recorded...resulting in money for KFN. I'm not sure if how much it would bring in but every little bit helps. :-)

        Regards...

Without an ad blocker running I see ads probably due to the fact that I'm logged out after only a few minutes after signing in. Not a big issue though as I've stated elsewhere.

Let me begin by saying I consider myself neither silly nor Republican, or necessarily pro or anti-commercialist for that matter.

          Indeed...
In my short time here I've offered to 'put my money where my mouth is' on several occasions.
I, and others of a similar view have made it clear that any mechanism for donating should be unobtrusive, and remain wholeheartedly a voluntary option.

My statements weren't really a direct response to your original post, but rather in regards to general feedback we have received in various threads and PMs. Many people have complained about the ads, but let me be clear in saying that not everyone has complained. I appreciate your original suggestion and I'm sure it would help.

There is a feature of vBulletin for 'paid subscriptions'. We are not using this, but it is the option that I have proposed as the mechanism for securing funds for the operation and maintenance of KFN. This is, in my opinion, the best solution. It allows those who want to support KFN to do so, while not imposing any requests for 'donations' from any member. The Administrators will be discussing this.

Just to sum everything up, KFN needs funds to stay around, obviously. However, with that said, I don't want that to be on everyone's minds at all. I want KFN users to come here to chat, support users, and just hang out; NOT think about paying money! The ads produce enough revenue to get by at the moment. They are only shown to visitors and as stated before, are quite unobtrusive. I understand that most people don't care about the ads and they understand the need. Of course there are those that would rather we didn't have ads and used a different fund raising method, but I think they are the minority (no less important by any means, but still the minority at the moment). With that said, we are looking into multiple options including a "subscription" based option that would really just be an option for those who want to donate once a year. This is all still a work in process, but the paid subscription system, would be a lot like the donate but, completely unobtrusive with no flashy "Donate" button listed.

I appreciate everyones' patience regarding this matter, and would like to recommend that we consider this case closed. No more discussing money! Let's just enjoy the community

                Thanks,
                OS

PS To the OP, thank you for your consideration in "lowering your shields" to help KFN out. If you would like to do so, it would be appreciated, but don't make it a priority or let it ruin your experience here.
