Alrighty, here's my $0.02 worth for today: I REALLY...really dislike the lack of nested quotes. I mean REALLY!! Sorry, but I find it very annoying having to manually fiddle with things to make a reply contain EVERYTHING I'm replying to. And, NO, the "multi-quote" feature is NOT the same thing.

As with my previous question--which no one's acknowledged yet --about using BB code in our profiles, is this something that's not available in vB or has it been intentionally disabled, or what?

No, I see no option to allow code on the bio sections.
The quotations will remain as they are at his time.

I've thought, at times, of getting a life, but I've never found one on the shelves of the stores I've been to, and, I believe that if they were made available, I either wouldn't like the choice of life offered, or, it would be to expensive to buy.

Something I just noticed as I was about to post an update in a thread: the old board added size attributes to images inserted in posts with the [img] tag, while the new board [apparently] doesn't recognize those attributes, so instead of displaying the image it's displaying code. If you look at this reply you'll see what I'm talking about. (I left it unedited so the issue could be seen as it is now.)

Are these going to be cleaned up?

Good point. I have never seen IMG attributes like that in vB's bbcode ... so it might need a subtle post-content-editing database query to fix them.

Well, I just edited it so its code is exactly the same as I always did it before, and it's doing what I expected. Its code is:

[url= full_path_to_image.png][img]full_path_to_image.png[/img][/ url]

which is verbatim how I used to do it.

The difference now is that without the size attributes--that the old forum inserted on its own--the image displays at full size, whereas before it appeared smaller, hence why I'd make it a link so the reader could see it full size by selecting it. If THIS forum isn't going to automatically resize images posted in threads via the [img] tag, then there's no need to bother making it a link any more! (Except I will anyway when it's an image whose size will throw off the formatting of the thread, making horizontal scrolling necessary. Then I'll use a thumbnail and link it to the full size version.)

ETA: How the hell do you get CODE text not to parse links? Yes, I unchecked 'automatically parse links in text' but that didn't work either. So I stuck spaces in the link instead.

I have studied the introductory page at KUBUFORUMS@DOTNET from the perspective of not being logged in at the college, using several different monitors, one square, one larger 1038 by 1020(or whatever the numbers are) and a dual monitor 1024 x 768.

In all cases the front page displays correctly, as compared to login on my home computer, and the advert at the top is not "too offensive".

The "actual valid links" to other parts of the forum are easy to see, blue, and I did not see any obvious links that gave adverts, although that may not always be true.

The same observations apply for within the forum.

But, to get past the trees as it were.

I, personally, think that for the random person wandering by the forum.....the first page is VERY INTERESTING...it has a lot of "valid, informational" "stuff" on it....

Also, I don't know that I have quite seen another page quite like it. It may be unique. Really. And that is a good thing.

As comparison, a link was offered to a distro in the last week that, when followed, presents a wiki. Another example is SuperOS. One gets a wiki, but there is the other page with the girl sitting in the quasi Lotus position. However, it is not very informative while quite striking in simplicity and beauty.

But, both of those distros realize that their target audience is not the "random passerby" or the "person just looking around for a new distro". People who go there are relatively well informed and serious and don't "need" an engaging front page.

All in all, I think that the folks here who developed the whole "gestalt" of the front page have done a MARVELOUS job!
