Um, not always but not too bad in general. Each quote links back to the original post, with that admittedly tiny default icon there.
I do not see an option for this, maybe there is a plugin

They are present both in the quick reply box and in the advanced editor

I can't reply to any threads in forum Miscellaneous Linux Info or create a thread there. Is this intentional? (Perhaps we are supposed to use sub-forums only?)

I did change mine from the basic editor to the standard editor

While all these features can eventually slow a forum down (as it did in the old server) It seems we may for the time be able to try some out, see what we can keep.

You shouldn't be able to post there as that should just be a category. The threads that are currently there, should be moved to a sub-forum.

That makes sense to me. Although it might not be clear which sub-forums some of them belong to ... might end up needing "General", "Other" or "Miscellaneous" sub-forum!

No, it isn't -- any more. The ability to 'nest' quotes they way we were able to do under SMF, was removed from vBulletin some time back. There are Mods (hacks) that can give us this 'feature' back, but we are just going to wait and see. In the new versions of vBulletin, as we are using here, you can use the Multi-Quote option that is enabled (and that I've used in this reply) to get the same results.

To accomplish that, you had to go to each of the posts you wanted to quote, hit the multi-quote button, and then reply and add your comments. When I attempted to quote your reply, all I got was:

With the old method, all I would've done is quote YOUR post and we'd get this:

DEFINITELY not at all the same thing. Not only is it a pain in the ass to have to manually insert nested quotes, but, well, that's enough, right?!

DYK raises a good point: multi-quote is an add-on to vb - which I find useful but by no means essential.

Keeping nested quotes is a different thing. In fact, stripping nested quotes is an anti-feature - the code actually has to do some work to make itself less useful for us! I question whether it really requires an add-on to restore this ...?
