    Wiki, Howtos, Knowledgebase and licencing

I think a lot of people are worried about fragmentation. I think many people feel that many efforts will be wasted if the pool of users is spread out between more than one forum.

I do not know about that.

I have been trying to better integrate the wiki with the Ubuntuforums culture for the past few months. It seems that more and more users are asking to have better integration between the forums and the ubuntu wiki.

    Wiki pages like:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UserDocumentation
    and
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/forum

can serve as a knowledgebase. Users can add their howtos and other helpful insights there to be available to all of the ubuntulinux community. The forums (any forums) can serve as a platform for discussion and improvement for these pages.

Now, that brings to light the issue of licencing. Should it be expressedly stated that the content posted by users Here on the forums falls under a particular licence?

For example, if all the forums users had to agree to use the Creative Commons Attribution licence, then anyone who would port a helpful post to the wiki would have to give credit to the original author.

    http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses/

If the chosen licence was pd (Public Domain) no such obligation would exist.

Perhaps there is a way for new users to chose from a list of options to determine under what licence their contributinos to the forums will be?

What do you think? Do you think this is neccessary?
