    go directly to forums

i think that "http://kubuntuforums.net/" should take you directly to the forums. imo, the current homepage is not very useful. (i know i can bookmark the forum url). from a "dumb user" point of view, if i enter "http://kubuntuforums.net/", i would expect to be taken directly to a forum.

do other people use other parts of the site besides the forums? the shoutbox seems to just be a place where questions go to die. maybe the whole site should just be streamlined into a forum only layout.

that being said, i am certainly not complaining. thank you very, very much for providing this site. it is a great resource for kubuntu users. just trying to offer some constructive criticism.

I use only the forums. Just speaking for myself, of course.

The idea of the current index page is to give us some options for adding features or news items. It does add a photo album, blogs, etc. Let's hear what everyone else would like to see as we may go back to the original layout; just forums, if that is the consensus. Thanks for the input.

I don't think luke1011 is suggestion is that we do away with everything else--only that the forums be the main home page and the other stuff become side links.

          Re: go directly to forums

well, initially i was just saying that the forums be the "main" page.

but i did broach the subject of doing away with everything else. not saying that's the way to go but it seems that the other stuff doesn't get used that much. obviously though, this forum is still in its early stages and dapper could cause an surge in membership at which point the other stuff could start getting used a lot.

at the very least, i would make the forums the main page. if not, that's cool too.

            Re: go directly to forums

I for one usually go directly to the forums, but appreciate that the homepage is something entirely different. It's something new and unique compared to other forums, and I like something new and unique. Besides, we could always just bookmark a link directly to the forums.

EDIT: With that main page separate from the forums page, it feels like that KubuntuForums.Net is really a big website that serves as the home of the forums for Kubuntu users. Unfortunately, like I said, it's not updated much so it also feels a bit dead right now.

The only problem, however, is that many of the features in the front page is quite unused. We're not maximizing resources. Open Source might be a bit busy to update things lately or something like that.

Btw, the >> and << buttons on the sides also bring up some nice features. I wish there was a way to turn them permanently on or off, depending on the preferences of each user.
