    It's kind of strange in my opinion to use vBulletin instead of SMF (btw. there will be soon a new cutting edge version released). I don't see the point changing the forum.

      If you want an other forum I'd rather suggest: http://www.phpbb.com or http://www.jforum.net/

        I first launched this site using PHPBB, but changed to SMF after about 1 year because I liked the features of SMF better.

          Then I suggest to stick with SMF (hey, you are the one who have to manage that thing in the end) and wait for the new version 2, which is now in public beta...

            It's ultimately Open Source's decision. But what about a public poll to see what all the users prefer?

                We aren't Ubuntuforums, we aren't competing with them, and I don't see the need, necessarily unless there is a definite benefit in admin or user experience.
                Ok, I'll mention my most obvious pet-peeve with SMF...search-results are very
                sub-optimal (tho, this could probably be fixed with a local-hack).
                The biggest problem I have with its search results are that 'replies' for each hit
                are missing.
                I just wasted my time clicking on 4 or 5 of the search results
                for my keyboard and wine problems in Hardy Heron, and after going to most
                postings, I then find that there have been NO REPLIES on each, hence, that post is pretty much useless to me.
                So, it's a no-brainer that replies and last-poster and other stuff that
                VBulletin shows is clearly superior.

                Also, when I use both Ubuntu and Kubuntu forums to work these issues, I find
                tons MORE info over in the Ubuntu forums. And, many of the replies over
                there include specifics on Kubuntu anyway. e.g.
                http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=770262

                These forums presently have quite limited value, in my opinion.
                [Therefore, if you use inferior tools, you'll never capture new users from
                Mepis or Ubuntu.]
