In the week or two since installing Kubuntu I have updated system software using the program Discover, however that has not been as straight forward as I might have wished. I invariably get some message that something can't be downloaded and in some cases after pressing the Update button, Discovery just freezes, at which point you cannot power off the system. After searching various forums there is a lot of conflicting information with some claims that Discovery is not a package manager so therefore should not be used for system updates and that Muon should be used instead. Now Muon, by itself cannot be used for system updates, it appears to require Muon Updater which is listed as a "transitional package". Now some of the forums I am referring to date back almost to the time of the dinosaurs so may well be out of date.
Anyway, so what is the current situation, should system updates be applied through Discovery, or should Muon Updater be used?
