Hello.
I'm not really a transitioner (used *buntu for 2 years now) but as far as laptops go I am new. Usually I buy (desktop) hardware and build my own machines, but I really need a laptop now and I can't seem to find a suitable one, brand wise.
Since there isn't any *nix-machines for sale here in Sweden at a reasonable price I'll buy a OEM win installed/bundled (any *nix-laptop I've found is a ~5-10% more expensive without windows then with windows)- sellers market). So my 'project' is to see if I can avoid the windows tax with claiming a refund on the OEM install.
Question is which brand of laptop is my best option? What are their stand on refunds on OEM win licenses? (I'll mail them and/or others to see what they say, but I'd like to hear from what you know or have read)
I like Asus hardware in general (usually I tend to build desktops on Asus pieces), Acer seem to be quite a "bang for the buck", but I have no real experince with Acer. Sony in general is a nice brand, all Sony products returned as much as whatever extra I've payed - solid items (from TVs to headphones, in my experience). Other considerations are Dell and Samsung.
So my options/considerations are (please post any other brands/laptops that could be of interesst);
Acer, Asus, Sony Vaio (Dell, Samsung?)
Pricerange - 6000-8000 SEK (~925 - 1,233 USD / 682 - 910 EUR) any specific laptops hints welcome )
(my main purpose for this machine is write, mail and web with a deasent keyboard
