Installing Kubuntu on a Second Hard Drive Without CD

Fancy yourself a real tech nerd? Let's see if you can solve this one.

I have a HP laptop, running Windows Vista 320gigs of space distributed over two hard drives. Right now only one is being used, and I think it would be convenient to install Kubuntu on my other hard drive (this should save me from losing my data, right?)

The only problem is that I cannot seem to burn the Kubuntu ISO onto a CD. I am using Infarecorder and the MD5 checker said the keys matched. I have no experience with Kubuntu and all the installation guides online are either way beyond my comprehension level or they involve burning it to a CD (by the way, the exact error I get is "A write error occured. Failed to write lead-in" and yes, I lowered the write speed.)

So, I want to (hopefully this isn't ambitious or demanding) :

Install Kubuntu 8.10 on my second hard drive
    Not loose all my information
Burn without a CD or fix the problem I have burning the CD.

Any help would be rewarded with praise and little dances and whatnot.

Which version of Kubuntu LiveCD did you download? Intrepid 8.10 is 692M.

... or maybe just an old nerd.

        I am using Infarecorder
Never heard of that -- so of course that's my first suspicion.

This will sound facetious, and it is admittedly a non-technical solution, but I'm serious .... sometimes you just need a friend with a plain-Jane Windows computer and a blank CD. I think it's some combination of your hardware and your burning software, and you might get a quicker result with the friend's rig than you will chasing gremlins around your Infarecorder-whatchamajig.

Infarecorder is the program suggested by Linux to do the burning with. I'd never heard of it either

          Er...is 8.10 the correct answer to that? I'm going with 8.10. It's 8.10.

EDIT: Ah! Did it the old fashion Windows Explorer way ("right click->send to->D:") and it says the disk is too small (by 4mb. Groan)

EDIT2: Eureka! It's burning! Any help on the issue of the dual drives? Is there any online articles that could help me out?

although not being a geek or nerd here is my nerdy solution:
            http://www.linuxbasement.com/content...t-burning-a-cd

This is for a 64bit setup if you have a 32bit setup then you will have to look for those files here:
            http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dis...-i386/current/

            I works fine. enjoy

I got that sorted out (Check my two edits)

              Thanks though!

Any thoughts on putting it on my second drive?

EDIT: Now that I look at it, and from what I've read; it should install to my D: drive regardless. Nevermind, thanks gents and ladies.
