converting avi to divx

I have a couple of avi files that I wish to convert to divx. Does anyone know of a good app for doing this, preferably one that is available in the kubuntu universe repositories.

Unless you've got really many avi files for a batch conversion (use mencoder or transcode then), vlc and its streaming assistant will come in handy. Install vlc, start it and choose File -> Streaming Assistant. Follow the steps.
