the difference between kubuntu 6.1 and Edgy

I always download the updates that are listed on the kicker (kubuntu 6.10.1)
So what are the benefits of switching to Edgy?
And a similar question for any following versions.
Is there any site that discusses this?

Newer release versions contain newer versions of software and some completely new software packages etc.

With older releases, you still get security updates as long as the version is supported (this is 36/60 months for LTS releases, like dapper, and 18 months for 'in-between' releases, like edgy and feisty), but you don't get updated versions of software, unless they are backported to the older release.

Every version of Kubuntu has a number (eg. 6.10) which is simply the year and month of release (eg. oct 2006) and it also has a name (eg. edgy eft). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_(Linux_distribution)#Releases_2 for more info.

This is what I wanted to know.
My apologies to all for confusing 6.06 LTS with 6.10
(I would perhaps be less confused (doubtful) if either only names or numbers were used to identify versions
