Suspend2 not work

I install "sudo apt-get install hibernate", then run:
al@ub:~$ sudo hibernate
Your kernel does not have any recent Software Suspend 2 support compiled in.
Please follow the HOWTO linked from http://softwaresuspend.berlios.de/ for
instructions on how to compile Software Suspend into your kernel.
hibernate: Aborting.

That need make, that work "sudo hibernate"?

Try http://www.suspend2.net/ You may need an older version, though for the 2.6.17-10 kernel.
