    Desktops?

    Hi guys,

I'm brand new to all this Linux/Kubuntu shtuff. I'm having fun tinkering with it, and was wondering if theres any alternate ways to change desktops. For example, my friend is running some sort of OSX on his MAC, and it flops desktops when you mouse to the edge of the screen. I know that is a bad comparison, and I know MACs work quite differently, but Kubuntu has already impressed me with the nifty things it does.

Is there any way to do this, or am I dreaming too big?

    Thnx,
    Joe

    Re: Desktops?

Wihout installing anything, try going to:
    KMENU>SYSTEM SETTINGS>DESKTOP
    and play around.

    You could also try Automatix:
    www.getautomatix.com
this program act like Adept but it installs programs you may not be able to get otherwise. (if you have an nVidia card, Automatix can install the drivers for you)

With Automatix, you can install SuperKarmba (eye-candy for KDE) which gives you widgets and themes.

    Last, but not least:
If you have a video card with 3D hardware acceleration, try Beryl:
    http://wiki.beryl-project.org/wiki/Install/Ubuntu
(You can see a preview of Beryl by searching for it at Google Video or YouTube)

    Hope this helps

I'm not sure what kind of Video Card i have. I'm running Kubuntu 6.10 on my PoS Dell that i got like 3-4 years ago. It was only about $600, so im sure its nothing amazing.
