    Receiving Digital Bradcast Television

Maybe this is stupid, but I hafta put it out there for smart people to (hopefully) see.

If digital television (the kind that will replace our beloved NTSC analog format here in the States) is an MPEG 2 stream broadcast in the ATSC format (or I'm wrong, but this is my understanding) ...

why can't I hook up an antenna to my computer and run a program to tune and decode the signal?

the antenna is the same for analog and digital (maybe optimized for one or the other, but rabbit-ears none the less). If I knew what frequency a digital TV signal was being broadcast on, why can't I just set up some software to decode the signal (MPEG 2 is pretty easy to play).

    could someone please enlighten me?
Working...
