customize (or reset) login screen (SOLVED)

A distro customization I tested (now tossed) messed with my login screen. I can change the login wallpaper but not the login menu. How can I reset this or change it to something less ugly?

    Thanks

How about sudo kcontrol and then System Administration > Login Manager ...?

Tried that it didn't solve the problem.I also discovered sudo kpersonalizer, which allowed me to solve the problem. Why aren't these options in the system settings?

It's been years (literally), but doesn't Kpersonalizer come up the very first time you log in? Moreover, as I recall, if you clicked on the skip button, it used to come up every time you logged in until you went through the whole rigamarole.

If the Kubuntu developers have eliminated that step by setting up a reasonable new user configuration which is set by default, good for them. However, I'm surprised you couldn't repair things from Kcontrol, it's just another wrapper (like Kpersonalizer) for changing config files.

No, Kpersonalizer does not come up each time I log in. Thank goodness!

But not all the Kpersonalizer options are available in System Settings.
