I suggest that to start, you take a look at the Ubuntu Community Help Wiki search for titles containing the word "network". This will give you a general idea of what is involved in setting up a home network in (K)Ubuntu. The folks here at Kubuntu Forums can try to answer specific questions about networking hardware that works well with Kubuntu (or doesn't), and which software to use for specific purposes.
